Ditcham Park School has a thriving cycling club with more than fifty active members. Pupils aged 5 – 7 start in our Young Riders Club acquiring basic cycling skills. From aged 7 – 16, riders can join our after-school Mountain Bike Club and enjoy riding our purpose-built onsite skills trails as well as off-site rides on trails in the local area.
Once a month, year-round, we offer longer ‘Adventure Rides’ on trails in the South Downs and our local trail centre (QECP). We also run occasional all day ‘Epic Rides’ to challenge our most experienced riders – this year six pupils rode 40km along the South Downs Way from Winchester to school taking in Old Winchester and Butser Hills.
Pupils aged 12+ are also offered regular road rides in the beautiful South Downs National Park, building stamina and experience with the aim of taking part in rides like the Isle of Wight Randonee.
Ditcham also hosts the British Schools Cycling Association National Hill Climb Challenge every year which is open to all our riders. We are pleased to say that we take home medals every year.
The school is lucky to have a large pool of qualified and enthusiastic parent volunteers. We encourage parents to join their children on our rides and hopefully volunteer to help with the club.
