Senior School at Ditcham Park Independent School provides an environment in which each individual pupil can develop his or her talents and potential to the full. The curriculum is broadly based, discourages early specialisation, and places an emphasis on the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science and Modern Foreign Languages.
The curriculum is guided by the National Curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4 and incorporates additional material in order to provide academic stimulation and flexibility in the courses we provide. Teaching techniques are varied and interesting with the use of audio-visual aids, ICT and educational visits. All pupils are expected to do homework each evening.
All pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, French, Latin, History, Geography, Music, Art, Drama, Design Technology, ICT, Religious Education, Spanish and PE/Games.
Pupils study 10 GCSE subjects. The compulsory subjects are English Language, English Literature and Mathematics. Further to this students will choose between Double or Triple Science and then a further four subjects from the Option subjects of Business Studies, Computer Science, French, Spanish,
Latin, Geography, History, Design & Technology, Music, PE, Drama and Art. In addition, all pupils have 10% of the timetable devoted to PE and Games, and a course in Personal, Social and Health Education is covered in Forms 1-5, with Citizenship and Further Education in Form 5. The school firmly believes that it is important for young people to consider and debate issues which affect them as individuals living within global, national and local communities. In addition to the classroom curriculum, pupils are required to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Many pupils in the Senior School also have extra Speech and Drama and instrumental and vocal tuition.
