Physical Education

Physical Education at Ditcham Park School is taught in an enthusiastic and innovative way so that each pupil, regardless of his or her ability, has a solid basis in sport.

The breadth of activities covered ensures that every pupil will find something they enjoy. The school enjoys sizeable playing fields, the views from which are the envy of visiting schools!

The Physical Education department leads many activities during curriculum time as well as a host of extra-curricular activities.

Junior School PE

In the Junior School the basics are taught at Key Stage 1 with emphasis placed on fun activities and encouragement of team cohesion. During Key Stage 2 the focus becomes more on individual skills within a team framework.

Senior School PE

In the Senior School sports taught include football, basketball, rugby, hockey, netball, volleyball, dance, gymnastics, health related fitness, outdoor adventurous activities as well as cricket, rounders, tennis and athletics during the summer months. These areas are taught in line with the national curriculum and lessons are based around techniques and tactics with games activities.

We feel that Physical Education within the school at both Seniors and Juniors, gives every young person a sporting start in life whatever their interests or abilities. Many of our pupils have gone on to.

GCSE PE

The GCSE Short course has run over the last 5 years with great success. It is a 60% practical course (including controlled assessment) with a 40% theoretical exam paper and is taken by pupils in Form 4.

Fixtures

Fixtures are arranged against a good number of neighbouring schools for pupils of every age group and across a full range of sports. We encourage our parents to come and support the teams and enjoy a fine match tea afterwards.
