Ditcham Park School: Leading the Way in Environmental Action
At Ditcham Park School, we believe that every small action can lead to big changes when it comes to protecting our planet. As an Eco School with Distinction, we’re proud to be at the forefront of sustainability, empowering our students to take the lead in creating a greener, fairer future.
Our Journey So Far
Our commitment to environmental action began in earnest in 2019, when we hosted the Hopeful Earth Youth Environment Conference. Students from 10 schools across Hampshire and West Sussex joined us to pledge action on climate change. The event featured inspiring talks from environmental leaders, including Dr. Tony Whitbread (CEO of the Wildlife Trust), Philip Lymbery (Compassion in World Farming), and Extinction Rebellion activist Jack Harries.
The conference wasn’t just an event—it was the beginning of a movement. Together, we pledged to:
- Lead by Example: Make our school a model of sustainability for the community.
- Empower Young Leaders: Equip students with the confidence and skills to become environmental activists.
- Reduce Waste: Commit to sustainable practices, from cutting food waste to eradicating single-use plastics.
- Shape the Future: Ensure youth voices are heard in environmental policymaking.
Since then, we’ve been working hard to live up to that pledge—and we’ve achieved so much.

Our Achievements
As a proud participant in the Eco-Schools Programme, we’ve earned Distinction status twice for our ongoing commitment to sustainability. Some of our standout projects include:
- Recycling Fairs: Encouraging the school community to recycle and reuse.
- Litter Picking Events: Keeping our local environment clean and safe for wildlife.
- Environmental Surveys: Involving students in monitoring local biodiversity.
- Wildlife Camera Project: Capturing and protecting the beauty of nature on our doorstep.
- Fundraising for Change: Supporting local initiatives to reduce litter and pollution in the Solent.
- Advocacy: Writing to local and national leaders to push for greener policies.
Future Events: Feel Good Film of the Festival will be a celebration of all we’ve achieved.
