Ditcham Park School is pleased to announce that STEAM workshops will be held in the October half-term.

Between 25th to the 29th October 2021, the following workshops will be held:

Life On Mars – 1-day course 9.30am-4pm £35

Join Yuri, the replica Mars rover and John, the aerospace engineer, in inventing a rover, decoding and analysing data and designing a Martian habitat.

John will be using Mars Diary, a programme funded by the UK Space agency and the European Space agency, to deliver a fun and creative day workshop for students between age 7 to 11. Students will plan and execute a mission to search for signs of life on the Red Planet. The activities will be focusing on embedding STEM learning, including recruit a crew, invent a helpful rover, decode and analyse data and design a Martian habitat. The “crew” will read, write, design, draw, experiment, code and decode and much more, as they undertake their mission.

Make Robots – 1-day course 9.30am-4pm £35

Learn the fundamentals of robots, what makes them work and finally make some!

We’ll be using common material to make everyday robots, as well as learn electronics and programming to make them work. This introduction to robots will be a good foundation for further robotics activities planned for summer 2022.

Astro PI – Mission Zero – 1-day course 9.30am-4pm £35

This one-day workshop is a great introduction to the programming language python. You will be asked to write a simple program to take a humidity reading onboard the International Space Station and communicate it to the astronauts with a personalised message, which will be displayed for 30 seconds. Leading this workshop is John Chinner, aerospace engineer at Airbus and he will bring Yuri, the replica Mars rover with him.

Astro Pi is an ESA Education project run in collaboration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Learn And Do 3d Printing – 1-day course 9.30am-4pm £35

Sharilyn from Makers Guild will show the students how to create objects using 3D printing. The students attending will understand how to design in TInkerCAD and how it becomes something tangible to actually hold. We will create a personalised key ring and a monster – ready for Halloween.

This introduction to 3D printing will be a good foundation for further 3D activities planned in the summer 2022.

Performer. Ditcham has given me the confidence to develop as a performer – singing AC/DC at our Arts Festival was a bit different from what I usually sing in the cathedral choir; I loved it.
