Senior Curriculum

The Seniors at Ditcham Park provides an environment in which each individual pupil can develop his or her talents and potential to the full. The curriculum is broadly based, discourages early specialisation, and places an emphasis on the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science and Modern Foreign Languages.

The curriculum is guided by the National Curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4 and incorporates additional material in order to provide academic stimulation and flexibility in the courses we provide . Teaching techniques are varied and interesting with the use of audio-visual aids, ICT and educational visits. All pupils are expected to do homework each evening.

Forms 1 and 2 (Year 7 and 8)

All pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, French, Latin, History, Geography, Music, Art, Drama, Design Technology, ICT, Religious Education, Spanish and PE/Games.

Forms 3, 4 and 5 (Years 9, 10 and 11)

Pupils study 10 GCSE subjects. The compulsory subjects are English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and French or Spanish. Further to this students will choose between Double or Triple Science and then a further three subjects from the Option subjects of Business Studies, Computer Science, Spanish, Latin, Geography, History, Design & Technology, Music, PE, Drama, Art. In addition all pupils have 10% of the timetable devoted to PE and Games, and a course in Personal, Social and Health Education is covered in Forms 1-5, with Citizenship and Further Education in Form 5. The school firmly believes that it is important for young people to consider and debate issues which affect them as individuals living within global, national and local communities. The school firmly believes that it is important for young people to consider and debate issues which affect them as individuals living in the wider community.

In addition to the classroom curriculum, pupils are required to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, which mainly take place during the extended lunch period. Many Seniors at Ditcham Park School also have extra Speech and Drama and instrumental and vocal tuition.

At Dragonflies we enjoy making craft activities and getting messy! We often use a range of resources such a junk modelling, paint and glue and stick different materials together - we particularly like using sparkly gems and sequins! We enjoy using our imaginations to create wonderful masterpieces. Why not try something a little bit different? Have a go at making a sock puppet using an old pair of socks! You could even put on a puppet show afterwards! #DitchamConnect #NoOrdinaryNursery #Sooty #Gordon https://www.ditchampark.com/nursery/ditcham-dragonflies/

Each morning in Dragonflies we talk about what the weather is that day and we discuss in a small group what activities you could do in that weather. For example, when it is raining we love jumping in muddy puddles! When it is sunny we like taking our snack outdoors for a picnic. When it's windy we have talked about making kites and trying to fly them! Today's activity is to have a go at making a kite! What materials might you use? Do you think you could fly it in today's weather? #DitchamConnect #NoOrdinaryNursery #16Acres #LetsGoFlyAKite https://www.ditchampark.com/nursery/ditcham-dragonflies/
