Ditcham Park School is committed to accepting pupils with a wide range of academic abilities and our Learning Support Department is an integral part of the school. The school recognises that individual pupils may have particular strengths and abilities as well as areas of learning which may require extra support both short and long term.
Academic progress and the development of all pupils in the school is monitored closely. Regular meetings are held to discuss individual and group achievements. Close analyses of examination and test results are routinely carried out to help identify those who may be experiencing difficulties in aspects of their learning. The school uses CATS4 to identify academic potential from the Junior School through to the Senior School.
Where a pupil is identified as having areas of weakness in their learning, a support programme may be put in place which is tailored to the pupil’s individual needs. All one to one support sessions are delivered by a dedicated team of specialist teachers, trained to devise and teach individual programmes which will identify the pupil’s strengths and use these to support those areas requiring greater development.
Individual lessons are charged as an extra and will be added to the school bill at the start of each term. Pupils do not miss core lessons but may come out of some lessons, arranged to suit each pupil’s preferences, so far as is possible. There are four small friendly learning support rooms where pupils work comfortably at their own pace.
Currently the school has a number of children who have a diagnosis of mild to moderate Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Speech and Language Disorder, Hyperactivity and Autistic Spectrum Disorders, plus a number of pupils who simply require a little more support than others in aspects of their learning.
Our aim is to help all pupils achieve their individual potential and become independent learners. Ditcham Park School has a fantastic record of achievement with pupils who have specific learning difficulties, with many of these pupils ultimately achieving excellent GCSE results and admission to Sixth Forms in top schools and Sixth Form Colleges.
