About 70 or so senior pupils took part in this year’s annual senior concert which was an evening of entertainment greatly enjoyed and appreciated by everyone who attended. We heard, as always, a wide range of styles from all our senior pupils – solo performances on the piano, violin, saxophone, cornet, oboe, clarinet, electric guitar, drum kit, and by our many vocalists, and we had a selection of ensemble performances by our established Brass Group, Senior Wind Group, Jazz Group, Chamber Choir, Full Choir, Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir and Concert Band. Also in the programme were duets, quartets and an octet, plus bands/groups put together especially for this concert.
It is very hard for me to avoid repeating what I say every year because the standard is always very high – so I am just going to have to repeat myself (again!): the talent among our group of pupils is incredible; they never cease to amaze me and never disappoint the listener. Everyone who took part last Thursday volunteered to perform and each one should feel immensely proud of their achievements, whether they performed as part of a large group, in one item or more. We all left the Martin Pryce Building on a high, full of pride and amazement at what our small school can produce. This year, among the 35 or so pieces of music performed, we had two pupil compositions, a beautiful and evocative piano piece by our Music Captain, Margaux Jones-Crampette, and an excellently put together song performed by Form 4 pupil James Curry. Well done to them both.
After such an amazing array of performances, it is a shame to miss anyone by pin pointing individuals when so many take part. I shall be recognising a large number of the pupils with Music Colours, Head Teacher’s Awards and Merits in the next few days. We all, I am sure, have our favourites from the evening and we are very lucky that we have had the concert recorded so we will be able to hear it all again, thanks to Mr Kevin Hodgson. Double CDs will be on sale for £8 via the School Office – please place your orders. CDs should be available for collection from Tuesday 28th March.
