Open Morning Saturday 2nd October 10am-1pm
The Ditcham Park School Science department is a well-resourced department with three fully equipped subject specific laboratories.
In Forms 1 and 2 (Years 7 and 8) Science is taught in two double and one single lesson per week as an integrated subject and addresses the National Curriculum content for these years.
In Form 3 (Year 9) Science is taught as three separate disciplines, Chemistry, Biology and Physics by subject specialist teachers, following the AQA Science specification. Each discipline has one double lesson a week.
In Form 4 (Year 10) students may opt for Double Science (Science A and Additional Science) or the separate GCSE sciences from Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Each subject discipline has two double lessons per week.
The Science specifications used are administered by the AQA examinations group. (www.aqa.org.uk)
The specification titles studied at Ditcham Park are:

The science department believe in stimulating students interest and enjoyment in Science, and in order to achieve this, subject content is delivered using a practical based approach enhanced with a wide range of activities, including the departments Interactive Whiteboards and the Internet.
|
|
A Form 1 (Year 7) lesson using the Interactive Whiteboard to learn about
cells |
A Form 2 (Year 8) lesson on Digestion |
| |
|
A Form 3 (Year 9) Physics lesson on electrostatics |
A Form 4 (Year 10)Biology lesson |
We also try to incorporate curriculum enrichment visits, these include a visit in Form 1 (Year 7), to Marwell Zoo to develop classification skills.
Taking part in the IBM science/technology challenge day in Form 4 (Year 10) and visiting a Brewery in Form 5 (Year 11).
