Religious Education

Religious Education should foster in pupils a reflective approach to life and enable and enrich this process through the study of living faiths, acknowledging the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian and taking account of the teachings and practices of the other principle religions represented in the country.

Through one lesson a week (KS3) Religious Education at Ditcham Park seeks to develop the following:-

  • A critical open-mindedness towards ideas and beliefs and ways of seeing life:

  • Tolerance towards values, responses and ways of life, different from one's own.

Personal and Social Education

Personal and social education (PSE) at Ditcham Park helps to give pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. Pupils have one lesson per week of PSE at KS3

Learning opportunities are seen to take place across and beyond the curriculum, in specific lessons, and in assemblies, special school projects and other activities and events that enrich pupils' experiences.

Citizenship and Further Education (CFE) at Key Stage 4

For one lesson per week the senior pupils at Ditcham Park in Form 5 undertake a course of Citizenship equipping pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills to play an active part in society as informed and critical citizens who are socially and morally responsible. It aims to give them the confidence and conviction that they can act with others, have influence and make a difference in their communities. Pupils also focus on their own personal academic and career paths by considering their options for the future. This includes visits to local Colleges and talks by visiting speakers on careers options and choices.
