Mathematics is a vital subject at Ditcham Park School. Providing our entrance requirements are met, it is our aim to provide the mathematical education appropriate for the ability of each pupil in the senior school.
For the most able this can lead to taking GCSE Mathematics in year 10 and then taking a further qualification such as the Free-Standing Mathematical Qualification (Additional Mathematics). In 2009 12.5% of year 10 have already achieved A or A* in GCSE. We also enter all our top set mathematicians for the National Mathematics Challenge, a competition for the top third of pupils nationally. In 2009 Ditcham Park School pupils achieved 22 Bronze, 11 Silver and 4 Gold awards in the Junior and Intermediate Challenges.
There are two sets in Years 7 and 8 and three sets in Years 9, 10 and 11. All are taught by well qualified and enthusiastic staff and our 2009 GCSE results were 36% above the national average. Students who find mathematics more of a trial than a challenge can often be offered extra tuition at school with a member of the mathematics staff during lunch times.
