ICT is a core subject at Ditcham Park, used throughout every year group and by every pupil from age 4 – 16 years.  In January 2009 the school opened a new ICT centre with 2 fully networked teaching suites.

ICT 2 – Contains 16 networked PC’s, and 6 networkable laptops. Each workstation comprises a 2.1Ghz Pentium Dual Core processor , with 17/19” TFT screen, standard qwerty keyboard and a wired laser mouse.  The ‘Toshiba’ laptops have a permanent mains powered docking station and 15.4” screens. Both of our new suites are `air conditioned` to provide a comfortable working and learning environment.

Junior School

The Junior School uses ICT throughout each Key Stage and all junior classrooms have IT facilities with software chosen and tested for suitability by the junior teaching staff. We use a wide variety of educational software including: “Number Gym (v2.5)”, “Clicker 5” and “Crystal Rainforest (v2)”. This is combined with key ‘Microsoft Office’ programs and Internet-based learning to help develop not only IT skills, but also subject focused knowledge across the entire junior curriculum.

Senior School

In Form 1 (year 7) and Form 2 (year 8) of the senior school, pupils are given a more thorough instruction of the Microsoft Office Suite. In particular, they follow modules using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft PowerPoint. This helps to develop a range of higher level skills by solving various problems through use of IT.

New ICT Suite

In Form 3 (year 9) and Form 4 (year 10), pupils are introduced to Microsoft Access. All pupils will complete the OCR GCSE (short course) qualification for ICT in Form 4 (year 10).e Examination body for GCSE ICT at Ditcham Park is OCR and pupils follow the 1095 (B) syllabus. (http://www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/gcseshortcourses/ict_b/index.html).

Pupils also have the opportunity of taking a 2 year Business Studies GCSE as part of their options programme in Form 4 (year 10) and Form 5 (year 11).

Extra Curricular

Outside of ICT as a specialist subject, the IT suite is well used as a bookable resource for all Departments and Junior classes; it is also an integral part of the schools development and expansion programme. IT also has a significant impact on the school’s extra-curricular activities, with the IT suites being used 5 lunchtimes a week for clubs and Music IT, the website club, and the regular school newsletter which is produced by our senior school pupils.
