DITCHAM PARK SCHOOL

Where every child is known and valued

Open Morning Saturday 2nd October 10am-1pm

The Drama Department is situated in The Court Theatre, a lovely converted space with a stage, a lighting gallery, a large backstage storage and rehearsal area and seating capacity for eighty.

The Drama Department aims to instil the students with a love of Drama whilst giving them the knowledge and understanding of the principals of Theatre.  There are three main activities that are explored in every lesson;

MAKING Drama is the ability to generate and shape Drama in order to explore and express ideas.  This also helps students to gain insights into people and society.
PERFORMING Drama is the ability to engage and communicate with an audience in a dramatic presentation.  This also helps students to understand how to speak and present themselves and their ideas, in public.
RESPONDING to Drama is the ability to express understanding, discernment and appreciation of Drama in all its forms. This also helps students to learn how to voice criticism and offer suggestions in an appropriate way.

Drama provides greater self-awareness and self-confidence.  It can give students the ability to make decisions and carry them out and help them to work creatively and imaginatively within a group.

ORGANISATION

The First, Second and Third forms (Years Seven, Eight and Nine), have a double lesson (one hour and ten minutes) per week.  The GCSE groups in the Forth and Fifth years have two double lessons per week.

GCSE Drama is a popular and successful course. In their final year, students are required to present a performance to the examiner and to a large audience of family, friends and the public. We follow the AQA Drama course and our results are consistently excellent, with the Department often gaining 100% A-C passes.
