DITCHAM PARK SCHOOL

Where every child is known and valued

Open Morning Saturday 2nd October 10am-1pm

The Art Department is situated on the top floor of the purpose built David Holmes building. There is also a dedicated Ceramics area on the ground floor with two kilns and three pottery wheels. It is very spacious and attractive accommodation. Art and Design Technology share a wonderful Gallery Space. The Gallery provides an excellent venue for displaying G.C.S.E. and lower schoolwork. Exhibitions are changed regularly as students complete projects.

Part of the ethos of Ditcham Park School is that each child is known and valued. To reflect this, students' work is also displayed all around the school.

Art Curriculum

In the senior school all pupils receive one hour and 10 minute lessons in years one, two and three. G.C.S.E. Art students have two hours and twenty minutes. At exam level they can opt to take either Fine Art or Unendorsed Art: both cover a wide range of art activities including: -

Sculpture, Print-Making, Ceramics, Digital Photography, Sketchbook Work, Painting, Textiles, Drawing and Mixed Media Work.

In lower school, we provide a sound foundation for students to explore and build skills in all the media used at G.C.S.E. level. We encourage them to realise their full artistic potential by creating an atmosphere that fosters confidence and excitement, appreciating and valuing their own individual responses and to develop an awareness and respect of the art of others.

Art Activities at lunch time

There are regular lower and upper school art clubs, which are held at lunchtimes. The group mural is an example of a piece of work produced during an art club activity by lower school students.  It is currently on display in the assembly area.
