The DPS new Head Teacher starts after Easter for the Summer Term 2017
Graham Spawforth will be joining Ditcham Park School as Head in April 2017 at the start of the Summer Term. Graham is presently Senior Deputy Head at Reed’s School, Surrey, where he is involved in all aspects of leading and managing a very successful Independent day school with boarding. At Reed’s he teaches History and leads an innovative programme to promote Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM). He also serves as a Governor of a local Academy where he has taken the opportunity to forge links between the two schools. Prior to Reed’s School, Graham worked at Monmouth School, where he taught History to all age groups, coached rugby and held roles as Housemaster and Head of Sixth Form.
Graham was educated at Wellington College before attending the University of Edinburgh where he achieved an MA in Modern History. After graduation, Graham completed leadership training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and then spent six years as a British Army Officer in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers seeing active service in Northern Ireland and the Gulf War.
A keen sportsman with a love of rugby, Graham won a Blue at university and represented Scottish Universities and the Combined Services TA. More recently he has taken up cycling and running to keep fit and completed the London Marathon in 2013 and the New York Marathon in 2014. Graham has a love for all sports and is a great supporter of music and drama believing participation in these activities to be an important component of a good all round education.
Graham is married to Sara who is an accountant and they have three teenage children. He and his family are looking forward to moving to the area in April. Graham is excited by the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and is very much looking forward to meeting all members of the school community during the summer term.
