Open Morning Saturday 2nd October 10am-1pm

Year 5 is known as Middle Juniors at Ditcham Park. This is the first year at Ditcham Park that the children have formal homework which is set in addition to the usual reading, spellings and times table practice that is expected in the previous years.

A selection of the topics that we study over the year are:

• The Tudors
• The Aztecs
• Weather
• The Rainforest
• Forces
• Life processes

We plan a lot of extra curricular work from these topics and have a couple of trips that complement them over the year. In May we take the children to the Isle of Wight for 3 days. The children have a lovely time staying on a friendly farm and visit some of the tourist attractions of the area. The main reason for this trip is to promote some independence and it prepares them for a 5 day residential trip to Dorset in October when they go into Year 6.

In the summer term, as part of our study on Life Processes, we incubate ducks and chickens in the classroom. This year we hatched 10 Indian Runner ducks.
