Isle of White Trip 10

Each year at the end of April, Middle juniors pack up and head off to the Isle of Wight for a few days. The purpose of the trip is to get the children prepared for a week long residential when they go into Upper Juniors and to have a few days of great fun!

We arrive in Ryde by Hovercraft and head off to the Glass factory in St Lawrence where the children see beautiful glass being blown. Then it’s off to Amazon World, which ties in with our Geography topic on the Rainforest. After here, it’s a short journey to Middle Barn Farm where we all stay in converted cow sheds! The farm is set in many acres of beautiful land where the children are free to play on the extensive green areas.

We have a ‘Search and Rescue’ day where the children are split into teams and have to find their way around the farm using grid co-ordinates with the aid of a walkie-talkie. They work together to solve problems around the site. They all got thoroughly muddy this year and loved it!! The barn was set up for some archery in the afternoon. We used the barn for our evening activities. We had a great evening listening to Island storyteller, Richard ‘Timberwood’. The children loved his stories on smugglers, pirates and longshoremen….and especially loved dressing up!

A fantastic time was had by all. The children were a credit to the school.
