Transition is the beginning of Key Stage 2. Children follow a more subject-based curriculum, taking part in activities that are tailored to their academic level. They are helped to learn through individual, class and group-based activities. Our practical investigations and experiments have an emphasis on enjoyment. Most lessons are taught by the class teacher, with French, PE and Music taught by specialist staff. All children learn to play the recorder and many find that this is a good time to take up an additional individual instrument or singing lessons and other extra-curricular activities. |

All lessons, apart from maths and spelling, are taught in mixed ability groups. The children are heard to read individually at least three times a week and enjoy sharing books with each other. It is expected that each evening, children will read, practise spellings and continue developing their multiplication skills to reinforce work they do during the day. Lessons are enhanced with a variety of practical activities both indoors and outdoors and are also complemented by numerous visits and trips each term. For example, when we study the Celts, we visit Butser Ancient Farm and experience first-hand some aspects of life in the Celtic times. Other trips, such as the Sculpture Park at Churt, inspire the children at the start of an art project. |

Throughout the year, the children are encouraged to become independent learners and work to their full potential in a happy and caring environment. |
