Ditcham Park School - Prep (Year 2)
Welcome to Prep which is Year 2 at Ditcham Park School. We aim to build on the firm foundation that the children have experienced in Pre-Prep and Reception, and try to move the children towards greater independence.

In Prep we build on the firm foundations that the children have experienced in the previous two years and move the children towards a greater independence. Throughout the year we provide a creative curriculum that is relevant and integrated so that the children can gain a personal response to what they are learning. Through using different learning styles and experiences, children in Prep continue to grow in self esteem and feel a sense of achievement. The greatest teaching asset we have here are the fantastic surroundings that the children enjoy every day.

Colour mixing takes on a new dimension when you are able to sit in front of beautiful trees in autumn and match the colours to the leaves, or throw the leaves into the air and measure where they fall. Baking is an exciting way to learn about fractions and measurement. The classroom is filled with the smell of apple cakes or pizzas, all ready to be chopped up and eaten. Visiting locations nearby further enhances the children’s learning. Kingley Vale is home to many ancient trees and is an excellent place to encourage creative writing and build shelters.

West Wittering Beach is one of the largest classrooms that we use! It provides wonderful opportunities for maths, science and art.
Playtimes are a little different when you have an enormous sand pit to play in! The photographs below are a snapshot of other areas of the curriculum the children cover over the academic year. At home the children are expected to read and practise their spellings and newly introduced tables to reinforce what they have learnt at school.
