Around 50 pupils in Forms 4 and 5 took to the hills of the South Downs this weekend coping with a mixture of sun, rain, fog and low overnight temperatures. In small groups of between 4 and 7 puplls they planned their routes, navigated using a map and compass, and carried everything they needed in rucksacks on their backs. The pupils cooked their own meals and camped in remote locations.
The two Silver DofE teams set off from Hooksway for a late afternoon hike to camp at West Dean on Friday. They then hiked from there to Arundel over the following 2 days.
Six Bronze Teams set off from various points in the Pulborough area on Saturday morning, they hiked to join the Silver teams to camp at a farm near Slindon, and then climbed onto the South Downs Way on Sunday to finish at Heyshott. All successfully completed the challenge.
